Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, commonly called CPR, is an emergency life-saving procedure that can be performed on a person when their heart stops beating. According to the American Heart Association, immediate CPR can double, or even triple, a person’s chances of survival after cardiac arrest. Want to learn the skills necessary to make the difference in a life?
CPR classes taught by TFARS officers Jeffrey Fenton and Michael Woodruff -- both certified American Heart Association instructors -- are now available in Tewksbury for coaches, Scout leaders, caregivers, babysitters aged 13 and up, or anyone needing certification for employment (including members of the Tewksbury Police Department).
The 3.5 hour course is a combination of video/lecture, discussion and hands-on practice with mannequins made specifically for CPR training. Topics covered include:
· CPR for adults, children and infants · use of an AED (automated external defibrillator) · safe ventilation using a barrier device · relief from choking
Course fees include all materials and a qualification card issued by the American Heart Association upon successful completion of the course.
Basic first aid and demonstrations about community safety are available at schools, events and community meetings by request. Rescue Squad building visits and tours are available to groups. For information, please send an email to [email protected].
